Mihaniki Design
Turkish designer Sema Kentel loves the beauty of the imperfect, the handcrafted, and the authentic. Her jewelry captures this spirit in designs that bring together ancient and abstract forms inspired by the Byzantine Empire. The brand is named after the Ottoman Turkish word, mihanikî, meaning “spontaneously." Imperfection reverberates in pieces from Mihanikî’ Design, which stylishly translate from the classical age to modern-day Istanbul.
After her undergraduate education in Political Science at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Mihanikî Design’s creator trained in jewelry studios in the United States. Classes she took on Byzantine history during her university years, coupled with her interest in antiquity, have influenced her relationship to the art of jewelry. The result is timeless, unvarnished, and imperfect pieces. They are true collectibles for the lover of handmade, artisanally crafted jewelry.
